Some of our long-standing clients will remember when every bespoke piece we made started with a hand drawing. Before computer designs were common, we would sit down with a pencil and sketch out exactly how a piece would look. It was the best way to bring an idea to life and show a client what their jewellery could become.

In this video we’re talking about one piece in particular. It was designed for a very large natural blue sapphire for one of our London clients. It was many years ago now and we can’t even remember the exact size of the stone, only that it was exceptional. A sapphire like that deserved something carefully considered, so the design began the way many of our pieces once did, with a simple hand drawing.

Two diamonds. Both GIA certified.

On paper, one is a higher colour and more expensive, but it has a lower clarity. The other is cheaper, slightly lower in colour, yet when you see them side by side, I genuinely think it is the better stone.

This is the point. If you only shop by the certificate and keep pushing up in colour or clarity because it sounds better, you can end up paying more for a diamond that does not actually look better to your eye. Numbers matter, but what you see in person matters more.

Always compare. Always view the stones properly. The right diamond is not always the highest grade on paper, it is the one that looks right to you.

Earlier this week, Russell, founder of Lords, joined Phoenix Radio to talk about something that matters deeply to us as a family business. Giving back has always been part of who we are, and the conversation focused on our long standing support of SNAP Charity and the ways we continue to raise money year after year.

What started it all was a passion project. A silver, gold and diamond Mark II Escort model that showed us how jewellery and craftsmanship could be used to do something positive. From there, it grew into calendar sales and a number of other fundraising ventures, all with SNAP Charity at the heart of it. In the months ahead, that support continues, with Russell’s son in law stepping into the boxing ring, where every penny raised on the night will again go straight to the charity.

Earlier this week, Russell, founder of Lords, joined Phoenix Radio to talk about something that matters deeply to us as a family business. Giving back has always been part of who we are, and the conversation focused on our long standing support of SNAP Charity and the ways we continue to raise money year after year.

What started it all was a passion project. A silver, gold and diamond Mark II Escort model that showed us how jewellery and craftsmanship could be used to do something positive. From there, it grew into calendar sales and a number of other fundraising ventures, all with SNAP Charity at the heart of it. In the months ahead, that support continues, with Russell’s son in law stepping into the boxing ring, where every penny raised on the night will again go straight to the charity.

During the interview, Russell also shared a little about life as a jeweller, why helping people and making them happy is at the centre of what we do, and how proud we are to use our work for good. This reel shows a job that meant a great deal to us. Robert trusted us with his Nan’s 22 carat wedding ring, a piece full of family history and emotion. Her ring mattered deeply to him, and preserving that connection was just as important as creating something he could wear every day.

We made a platinum wedding ring and carefully created an internal cut out so his Nan’s original ring could be sleeved inside it. Robert did not want to wear yellow metal, so when he looks down he sees platinum, while the sentimental 22 carat ring is protected within.
